The Little Warrior Mixed Martial Arts Program at Daniel Sterling Martial Arts and Fitness is a great way to get your child started in martial arts. These classes, which are designed for kids ages 4 -8, allow students to learn the basics of martial arts and self-defense, while having fun with their peers at the same time.

The curriculum for our adult and youth program focuses on Tae Kwon Do, Muay Thai Kickboxing, For the Little Warriors we take the very basic movements and techniques for each discipline and use them in drills and games.

These high energy activities accomplish several things:

  • Children develop coordination and balance – skills that are necessary not only in martial arts, but in everyday activities.
  • Children are allowed to spend their energy in a healthy productive way.
  • Students learn the importance and value of patience and taking turns.
  • By participating in these fun and friendly games students gain confidence in their skills and abilities.
  • Children learn how to play nicely with other children and respect each other.
  • By listening to and following directions, children develop concentration and focus skills.

Rave Review:

"I enrolled my daughter at Daniel Sterling Martial Arts 4 years ago, and I was blown away by the interaction between the instructors and students. Seeing their kindness, care and concern for each student was very touching. Master Sterling and all of the instructors possess a rare combination of drive, determination and empathy that makes them all a superior instructors and mentors for all.  Every student feels special and it's nice to have other people care about the success of my child.

I credit Daniel Sterling Martial Arts Center for making such a huge impact in Veda’s life.  Daniel Sterling and the instructors lead by example and encourage the students to do their best in class and in their daily lives.  I can't say enough how wonderful this school is or what an impact it's had on my daughter"

Thank you for being a positive influence and role model in my daughter’s life,

-Tiffany Wetherbee

At Daniel Sterling Martial Arts we believe that the student to instructor ratio is very important in classes with small children, and as a result, there are 2-4 instructors in every Little Warrior class.

In order to keep children focused on task they must be broken into smaller groups. These smaller groups allow the instructors to focus on the children as individuals.  The children receive better training because their teachers can pay close attention to their techniques.

Additionally, if the instructors are working with a smaller group of students then they can effectively emphasize the proper principles and attitude that should accompany martial arts.

Respect: In the Little Warrior classes, we teach and demonstrate the importance of respecting others. We emphasize respect and gratitude with basic phrases such as “please”, “Thank you”, “you’re welcome.” Our program highlights genuine courtesy, consideration, value and thoughtfulness.

Concentration: While our martial arts classes are fun and high energy, they also involve a certain amount of concentration and focus. The drills and games require that students listen to their instructors and follow directions. Parents often report to us that their children’s performance in school and at home improves as a result of their martial arts training.

Fun: On a lighter note, we want all of our students to have fun. If our students aren’t having fun during class then they wont want to continue martial arts –this is true of our students who are in their 60’s as well as those that are in kindergarten. All of our games are designed to be playful and lighthearted where everyone walks away feeling good about themselves. At Daniel Sterling Martial Arts we respect our students, and though we are determined to see students succeed, we encourage them to progress at their own pace.

Martial Arts is unlike any other sport or activity that children can participate in; the lessons taught inside the school extend far beyond the training mat. Numerous studies have shown that students in martial arts are less aggressive, have better self-esteem, do better in school and become more self-reliant.

  • Adolescence, a psychology journal, published a study that showed children, who took martial arts classes for 90 minutes throughout a week, showed a large improvement in positive behavior and a significant reduction in violent behavior.
  • A resent study published in the Journal of Applied Developmental Psychology demonstrated that children who participated in martial arts training had better behavior and scored higher on math exams.

When taught properly, martial arts can be a positive and powerful force in a student’s life. We at Daniel Sterling Martial Arts would like the opportunity to be a part of this force.
